Melissa was born on June 4, 1968, in Alabama, to William John and Barbara Jenon (Dirks) Greiner. She spent much of her childhood and youth in Sioux City and Orange City before graduating from MOC High School and attending the University of Northern Iowa.
Melissa later returned to Orange City and became involved in the local business community, managing several businesses throughout her career. Although work was an important part of her life, her greatest joy came from the relationships she built with family and friends.
Melissa married Michael Kelly, and together they raised two children, Tayler and Spencer. One memorable chapter of their family life involved restoring an early-1900s home on an acreage south of Orange City, creating a place filled with family memories.

Faith and fellowship were also important to Melissa. She participated in Bible study groups and developed meaningful friendships through those gatherings. She also enjoyed golf and participated in women's golf leagues in Orange City and Alton, combining her love of the game with time spent with friends.
Melissa was known for her hospitality and her ability to make people feel welcome. She enjoyed bringing family and friends together, and cooking was one of the ways she expressed that love.
She particularly enjoyed preparing and smoking meat, often turning meals into opportunities for people to gather, talk, laugh, and spend time together. For Melissa, cooking was about much more than food; it was another way of creating memories with the people she loved.
She also treasured summers at Okoboji. Time spent there provided opportunities to relax, enjoy the outdoors, and make memories with family and friends. Those experiences will now remain among the cherished memories her loved ones carry forward.
Melissa is survived by her children, Tayler L’amoureux of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Spencer Kelly and his fiancée, Briana Van Ravenswaay, of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
She is also survived by her grandson, Hugo L’amoureux-Wu; her mother, Barbara Greiner of Orange City; and her sister, Jenon Stroup and her husband, Cory, of Minnetonka, Minnesota. Her extended family includes her niece, Briana Harber and her husband, Dylan, and her nephew, Brendan Bailie.
